This past Sunday, Team Run traveled north to Burlington, VT for the second annual Labor Day 15K put on by our friends at the Green Mountain Athletic Association. This year’s edition was a USATF Championship Event as well, bringing an extra level of competition from area clubs. Ruben Sança won the race for his second USATF-Championship title of the year, posting a 47:10, while Team Run’s Joseph Amenya, Justin Freeman, and Peter Omae took fourth, fifth, and ninth overall. Ethan Brown and Stephen Gendron posted solid finishes of 34th and 42nd, respectively, to help Team Run take third out of the 11 teams.
Amenya led from the start but was caught by Sança and eventual second-place finisher Nate Jenkins at around mile 4.5. With Sança then pulling away from the pack around mile 7, Amenya still crossed the line in 48:47, good for fourth overall, with Freeman crossing in 49:30, good for fifth. Omae finished in 50:11, and Brown and Gendron posted a 52:34 and a 53:02, respectively.
With the course starting at Dorset Park and finishing at South Burlington High School, athletes had to contend with uphills at the 5K and 10K mark. Team Run has been a regular at the Lowell Good Times 5K series this summer and this was a different distance and course altogether so great work all around!
