Team Run has Solid Showing in Hollis

Team Run had a solid all-around showing last night at the Hollis Fast 5k. Cool temperatures and light rains characterized the evening as Team Run delivered 14 athletes to the start line. On the men’s side, recent UMass Lowell graduate and All-American Jeff Veiga made his New England Grand Prix debut. Veiga led the men to their best finish of the year as he took second overall in a blistering time of 13:54. Only Tim Ritchie of the BAA could best Veiga. The Team Run open men’s team finished in an impressive 4th place.  Also finishing in the top-10 was Olympic Nordic Skier Justin Freeman, who made his Grand Prix debut for the year. Freeman crossed the line in 9th in a time of 14:33. Just over 10 seconds later Peter Omae came in at 14:47 in 12th place. The final two scoring positions were taken up by Anthony Gitau (60th – 15:46) and Richard Tuttle (73rd – 15:59), who both simultaneously rounded out the men’s open team and led the men’s masters team. After struggling with tendonitis since the Boston Marathon, Ben Coughlin had a tough day finishing in 81st at 16:03. Rounding out the final three masters spots were Titus Mutinda (91st – 16:17), Marx Running employee Bob Tremblay (133rd – 17:00), and the Marx Running owner himself – Mark Coddaire (19:31). Coddaire raced in order for Team Run to field a full masters team, and their efforts were ultimately good enough for 5th place in a very competitive masters division.

On the women’s side, 2013 superstar Steph Riley continued to lead Team Run. Coming off a minor injury, Riley took 2nd for the first time this year but still managed to run a sizzling 15:47. Erica Jessman of Dirigo Running Club was the top female in 15:31. Running very well behind Riley were Nicole Casey (24th) and Lauren Lesniak (30th) in times of 17:36 and 17:52. Rounding out the women’s open team were Erica Zornig (59th) and Jess Looney (65th) in 19:17 and 19:29. The women’s team ended up in 4th place in a tightly contested open division. Team Run will be back in action on July 27 at the Cranberry Carver 5 Mile.
